Modern life has become a hectic, stressful, pressure-pot of an existence. There are so many people that are rushing about doing things just to get by, that they aren’t taking the time to live for themselves. This can lead to all sorts of issues with well-being, both physical and mental. With that in mind, we are going to take a look at some of the things you should be setting some time aside for; these ideas are aimed at improving your health so that you can live a better you.
There are many places that you can start when it comes to pressing reset and taking care of yourself. For some, this will be attending a retreat to practice mindfulness and others will explore the benefits of spiritual healing jewelry. We are going to start off by taking a look at the role of exercise on both your physical and mental health. While society is starting to understand the need to look after ourselves a lot more than we used to, there can be too many voices shouting opinions on the best way to do it. One very productive way to start taking care of yourself, is to really just get into the basics of exercise to encourage healing and health benefits. Let’s go over some of those basics now.
The first thing that you should know is that exercise doesn’t have to be an all-consuming process.
Far from being the dominating practice that some would have you believe it is, medical science suggests that we only need to take three hours of moderate aerobic exercise per week. That includes going for a run, jogging, cycling, or even swimming. They also recommend that we dedicate three days to strength training exercises such as push-ups and squats. If you aren’t to a point yet that you feel comfortable adding that into your day, you can start with just adding some extra movements to your routine. You can add things as simple as going outside and walking a lap around the house 2x a day. Or standing from your desk to do 5 jumping jacks every hour. (This works best if you have an office, work at home, or have colleagues that don’t ask questions.)
But why? Well, the obvious response to this will usually speak to the physical health benefits. A list of improvements to the body such as improved cardiovascular responses and greater conditioning. However, the mental benefits can not be ignored. Activity releases natural chemicals in the body called endorphins and serotonin that promote a more positive way of thinking, improved energy and are generally important for your mental state. Plainly, they help your mindset. That means exercise shouldn’t be done just with the concept of muscle-bound gym fans in mind, but with the overall benefits to your health at the forefront of your thinking.
I can’t talk about benefits of exercise on your health without looking also at diet. At some point in your life, someone will have told you of some great fad diet they have read or started doing which is a life-saver. While these might work in the short-term, they aren’t going to be for everybody and are unlikely to be long term fixes. Your body is a unique structure that requires a personal touch, so a one-size fits all diet isn’t going to be best for you. Instead, you should focus on what your body actually needs and work from there as a base.

Finding a way to incorporate these groups into a balanced diet will be the best thing you can do.
Keep in mind, the standard american diet often includes way more protein than our bodies actually need. It is always a best practice to have the majority of any meal be fruits and vegetables.
