change your mindset
If you read any of my other recent posts, you will find that I am focusing heavily on mindset and the universe these days. The reason?
Anything is possible with the right mindset.
Seriously. Try it. Change your mindset and you will improve your life.
I am not saying that having the right mindset will get you what you want overnight. And, I am not saying that having the right mindset will make everything easy. I am saying that it makes anything possible.
If you are ready to change your mindset and open up your possibilities, you may in fact be walking into the hardest work of your life. Changing your mindset is essentially changing the core of your being. I am going to be straight with you: it’s scary as hell.
When I started working on myself and my mindset years ago, I was really scared I was going to become a walking business billboard, greeting people with easily memorized quotes:
“Hey Rachel, How are you?”
“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.” (Quote by Jeff Olson, The Slight Edge)
“Riiiiiiight. See you around! Maybe…. Hopefully not.”
Or, that I would become the type of person who twirled in my garden wearing a white sundress all day. Both, really scary outcomes to me. However, neither of these things have happened I am happy to report. In fact, while the core of my being and the seeds of my thoughts have changed, I have managed to keep my sarcasm, wit and overall demeanor in tact.
What has changed, is much deeper.
I feel more at ease with myself, and more at peace in my day to day life. I can sit in silence and reflect without feeling anxious. As important (or more), I’ve seen a change in my confidence and how I react to others. Even a change in my patience with my children and my motivation towards my goals.
Speaking of goals, I have figured out what they are. Mindset allowed me to feel my intuition better and notice the universe pushing me in specific directions. It also allowed me to hear, take in and fully understand what other people were saying about getting in the right mindset/headspace.
So, you’re wondering where to start, and how to tackle mindset?
Well, let me help you out!
Here is an overview of things you can do to help get yourself in a positive, high frequency, abundance mindset. Which can in turn help improve your life.
10 ways to change your mindset How to change your mindset
1. Change your negative thoughts
The best way to start working on any kind of mindset issue, is to change your thoughts. It sounds absurdly easy and like the most simple answer… “don’t like what you’re thinking? Change your thoughts!” But, I can guarantee it will take some focus, attention and time, before it’s easy.
Start by being hyper-aware of your thoughts. Hear and take in every thought you have. Strangely enough, we all have thoughts that we don’t even notice we are having. It happens all of the time. The goal here, is every time you have a negative thought, change it. Stop yourself immediately and think something positive.

2. Stop breaking promises to yourself
This is straight out of “Girl, Wash Yor Face” by Rachel Hollis. This alone helped me over a huge mindset hurdle.
Think about how little you think of someone who is constantly blowing you off, or breaking every promise they ever make to you. When you repeatedly break promises to yourself, subconsciously you start to think less and less of yourself. You also allow yourself off the hook more and more often, and eventually you don’t really believe yourself at all when you say you will do something.
What do I mean by a promise to yourself? “I’m going to go to the gym after work 3 times a week” “I’m going to stop eating dairy” “I’m going to put my phone down at dinner and be present”
Start following through, for you.
3. Respect your body by taking care of it
This one can put people on edge. Hear me out first. I do not mean “go on a diet”. I do not mean “lose weight and be skinny.” I mean exactly this: take care of your body!
You have only one. And while science is doing some crazy awesome things (believe me, I know- science saved my baby!) your body is the only one you have. The more good food you put it in, the more you move it and allow it to work, the better you will feel. The better you feel, the better your mental state.
Think about when you’re stuck in bed, sick. Everything is the worst!
Even when you don’t feel that sick, your body knows when it’s not being taken care of and tells your brain that everything is the worst! So take care of your body.

4. Affirmations
Affirmations work wonders for mindset.
Here’s why; what you repeatedly tell your subconscious with affirmations will then become your beliefs. And as the old quote goes, “your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions and your actions become your destiny.”
The trick? Focus on the words of the affirmation you are saying and make yourself feel that it is true. Rushing through your affirmations in the morning when you aren’t paying attention is useless. Find a time that you can devote to this and only this. Then take your time and focus.

5.Love yourself
You are exactly who you are supposed to be. Even if you are on a personal development journey because you think you can be even better, who you are right now is exactly who you are supposed to be at this moment. LOVE YOURSELF.
Find something you love about yourself and remind yourself of that everyday. Find something you don’t love about yourself and change your thoughts on it.
“I don’t like my thick thighs” can become “I am grateful my legs are strong enough to lift my 40 lb child”
Tip: turn your changed thoughts into an affirmation and say it daily. (The thick thighs example? That one was mine.)
6. Start setting goals
If you have to, start with something small. If you can, go for something big. Then truly take the steps to get there. Believe in yourself and trust in the universe.
Everytime you cross something off a to-do list, you get a small dose of dopamine. Everytime you hit a goal, you get a large dose of dopamine. Hitting your goals literally makes you physically happy. Talk about helping a mindset shift.
Need help learning how to set goals? No worries. Not only do I have a post on it, but I’ve created a helpful goal-setting worksheet with an example companion. It’s free and you can check out both of these things here: Goal Setting: Why it’s Important and How to do it Properly
7. Read personal development books.
This is one that a lot of people don’t want to do. Personal development has come a long way from the stigma of the 1990’s “self-help” craze, but there’s still sometimes a bit of that vibe around it.
If you feel that vibe, here’s my answer to you: get over it.
You will find no better information on how to get your shit together, how to change your mindset, how to make all the money, how to find your passion, how to turn that passion into a career, how to live the life you actually want to live, et cetera, than you will in those books.
Challenge yourself (maybe even promise yourself) that you will get through one book a month, or one every other month- however much you think you can do. Then do it. Here is a list of books that I recommend starting with.
If you are like me and feel like you have no time, get an audible membership, it gives you a book every month. Then listen when you are driving or exercising or showering (if you can- I hear people do this, but I can’t ever hear my phone when I’m in the shower. Maybe if I had speakers?)
Bonus idea: Request a membership for your birthday or any gift-giving holiday. how to change your mindset
8. Trust in the universe
The universe, a higher power, god, spiritual vibration, mother nature, whatever you call it. Start trusting it. Full heartedly.
If you feel like you’re intuitively being pushed to go do something, do it. It’s the universe.
If someone you know always gives you an uncomfortable vibe, stop hanging out with them. It’s the universe.
If you got an idea, out of nowhere, that feels like it’s something special, listen to it. It’s the universe.
The Universe (God, Mother Nature, etc) does not speak English. Or Spanish or French or Mandarin for that matter. It speaks in feelings, vibes, senses, intuitions. So listen and trust in it.
9. Help others
What are you really good at? What do you love to do, or have a special knack for? Use your knowledge and talent to help others.
Dont have the time to volunteer? Donate monthly to your favorite charity, even if it is only $5. This helps you get into an abundance mindset.
There is enough for everyone, gift others with your time or money and you will have more room to receive from others.
Again, there is enough for everyone. Money, knowledge, clients, etc etc…….

10. Keep learning
My favorite authors, mindset leaders, business coaches and mentors all have one thing in common. It’s one thing that I admire most in all of them.
Not one of them ever slightly suggests they know all there is to know in their field. Every one of them is regularly working on self development, no matter how long they have been doing it or how much they know. They all understand there is always more to learn.
Make sure you understand that too.
There is always more to learn. There is always a way to better yourself.
