Harry Potter for Origami Owl was announced to Origami Owl Independent Designers yesterday, and we are all a-buzz about it. As it’s spreading around Facebook and the inter webs, Potterheads all over are starting to talk as well. I have the ultimate luck of being both a designer and a Potterhead, and am reeling in excitement.
I already have a Harry Potter locket that I wear almost daily, which I fashioned with charms we already offered. I am so excited to see what charms are released with the official line. Not to mention plates, faces, chains… the possibilities are endless and my imagination is running wild with this one.
A little backstory for you all, I didn’t watch Harry Potter when it first came out. In fact it was years later that my husband made me watch them all. I loved them immediately, of course, and we watched the whole series again within the first week of my sons life. You know, that time when you can’t really do anything and you have a baby stuck to you 24/7. Then, when Alice was in the NICU, I read her the entire series, as a way to have her consistently hear my voice. It was a book series that kept my interest, and was long enough to last the 3 months she was there. So, aside from loving Harry Potter for the series it is, it has a special place in my heart with fond memories of being with my newborns.
So, my excitement at the announcement was palpable. You can read my initial announcement here.
At the moment, Harry Potter for Origami Owl has been approved by J.K. Rowling herself, however the charms are waiting on final approval. The founders of Origami Owl stated yesterday in a Facebook Live video that they are thinking it could be a month to two months before the release. This gives us plenty of time to imagine all the ways we will design our lockets, and be amazed when the collection is more than we could’ve hoped. Because, if I know Origami Owl, it’s going to be knock-out.
Origami Owl is boasting that with this year, comes Origami Owl 2.0. With it being only January, and already announcing something so big as Harry Potter for Origami Owl, I think they are right on track to show us a whole new, super exciting brand. Previously this month, they ran a special for a full weekend, where anyone could join to be a designer for free, which led to over 4,000 new designers ready to launch their businesses. If this is the amazingness that 2.0 is starting with, I can’t wait to see what comes!
